Jamie Frost MRSS

iscover painting from a classic subject- the human figure.  This course is suitable for beginners but is also an opportunity for those with some experience of the subject to really get their teeth into a sustained painting.

The class structure includes an introduction to a range of figurative art approaches. You will explore the language of drawing and painting- line, tone, texture and other formal elements. You'll use a range of media and a variety of long and short poses. You'll also discuss colour theory and how you apply colour to the figurative subject matter.

After a day of drawing you will spend two days making a sustained painting from one pose. The first day is generally spent making an underpainting in acrylic paint, setting the colours, tones and forms. The last day offers the opportunity to refine and develop the painting using oils.

There will also be an opportunity to explore longer drawing methods (eg: measuring) and we will look at the compelling art of portraiture. Aside from lessons in technique there will also be discussion of the expressive power of figurative work.

This masterclass includes lunches, refreshments and materials. Oil and acrylic paints are provided, along with drawing media, paper and canvas. You are welcome to use other media. when booking please advise of dietary requirements.

Painting from life is completely different to using photographs. The tangible energy of a living subject shows. Colours react and dance with one another, waiting for the artist to interpret. It’s all about relative values and directing the viewer’s attention, with endless possibilities.

The fee for the three day course is £360 per participant, including all tools, materials and lunches.

The next course is 10-12th September 2020
